By the end of the workshop students will be able to identify and have experienced yogic practices which are the basic tools for the Pratyahara Group of Kriyas. They will have a greater knowledge and comprehension of the purpose of kriya yoga, practices as basic tools of preparation for kriya yoga, the relationship of the chakra, kshetram and nadi network to Kriya Yoga. They will have a strong focus and direction for consolidating practices when teaching experienced regular practitioners of yoga, reviewing the purpose of personal practice and be able to move it into a deeper experience.
Swami Sumitrananda was born in London. She moved to Australia in 1975 where she met her Guru and was initiated by Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda in 1983. She embraced the disciplines of an ashram lifestyle and started working within the teaching field for the Satyananda Ashrams around Australia. She gained a deep experience of teaching the practices as systematised by Swami Satyananda with special emphasis on the application of Yoga for the needs of others in society.
From 1992 she has been a resident of the ashram and Gurukul in Munger, living and working under the guidance of Swami Niranjanananda, the anointed successor of Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda. She has taught extensively for both Bihar School of Yoga and Bihar Yoga Bharati and has also been involved in the development of Yoga Education including the preparation of yogic study syllabi and the management and conducting of programmes such as teacher training, Kriya Yoga and Tattwa Shuddhi Course.
She is currently visiting the UK and is involved in a series of programmes across the country to share her understanding of the teachings and practices as taught by Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda and Swami Niranjanananda.

‘Yoga has a long and rich history in the field of mind and body health. To anyone who practises seriously the benefits are undeniable. Many of the benefits of yoga have traditionally been explained through the cultural understandings of their time. These days I think it is possible to add a great deal to that old wisdom with the insights of recent understandings in physiology and neuroscience.
This day will explore these modern perspectives to see what they can add to the long history of Yoga.
Peter Blackaby has practised yoga for nearly 30 years. His practice and approach is illuminated by his Osteopathic training and deep knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. His philosophy is to bring about a practical Western approach to yoga

We are all on a journey in our yoga practice from our first class as a beginner to reaching enlightenment, should we be so blessed. There are stages for every practice and every posture therefore there are stages for every person regardless of age, ability, condition or ailment.
This day will look at concepts around dysfunction and adaptation within the body and how we can find a safe stage for our students with common conditions and ailments to move forward with their practice when we work progressively towards each asana.
We will discuss postures and practices that may be more or less beneficial for some and try to understand why by discussing anatomy and physiology relating to specific conditions.
Frances Lumley has practised yoga since the mid 1980s following a low back injury at the age of twenty. For her, as a keen gymnast from 4 to 16 years of age, yoga represented a natural progression into a lifelong amazement of the human form and its structural abilities. She has been a British Wheel yoga teacher since 1996 and in September 1996, inspired to learn more about the human body, she trained as an osteopath.
Frances believes that yoga, in an appropriate class, is an ideal practice to rehabilitate, rejuvenate, strengthen and rebalance the body inwardly and outwardly at all different levels of ability and awareness, with or without injury or dysfunction.
